Day 1 Auckland Welcome to New Zealand 
Meeting; Orientation Walk; Dinner

We’ll have our “Welcome to New Zealand” meeting in the late afternoon in our hotel in Auckland. After the meeting we’ll head out for an orientation walk of the neighborhood and then get to know each other better over dinner in a local restaurant.

Day 2 Auckland 
Auckland Tour; Auckland Museum

After breakfast we’ll discover Auckland on a walking tour. Then a guided tour of the Auckland Museum to learn more about NZ’s history and Maori culture. The afternoon is free for your own explorations in the City of Sails using the public transportation provided by the tour.

Day 3 Auckland
Waiheke
Today we'll board the passenger ferry for a 40-minute scenic ferry ride to Waiheke Island. Upon arrival we meet our private bus and driver and visit Waiheke Whisky distillery and a local winery. We'll indulge in tastings at both, and lunch together. In the afternoon we'll visit a local sculpture park and learn about the local arts scene.

Day 4 Rotorua
Hobbiton

We’ll depart Auckland and head south to Matamata. Today we visit Hobbiton; film set for Peter Jackson’s epic fantasy movies The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. Whether you can quote the movies word-for-word, or you don't even know what a Hobbit is, everyone comes away enjoying this insight to the fantasy land of Middle Earth. Day 5 Rotorua
Wai O Tapu; Te Puia; Hangi

New Zealand's first people, the Māori, have a strong presence in the geothermal town of Rotorua. We have special connections for a more intimate and genuine experiences mot enjoyed by most other tours. Visit Wai-O-Tapu Geothermal Wonderland, Te Puia and an exclusive family homestead where we enjoy lunch with a local Māori family. We'll conclude our Māori immersion day with a Hangi - their traditional dinner and performance.

Day 6 Christchurch/Oamaru 
Flight; Oamaru; Blue Penguins

A morning flight takes us from Rotorua to Christchurch on the South Island (flight included). Then we’ll drive south across the Canterbury Plains, crossing New Zealand’s longest bridge over a braided river. After a lunch stop in Timaru we continue to the Victorian heritage town of Oamaru. This evening after dinner we’ll visit Blue Penguins, the world’s smallest, in their natural environment. We'll observe as they return from their day’s fishing and learn about conservation efforts from the colony guides.

Day 7 Queenstown 
Moeraki Boulders; Wine Tasting

Today is a another beautiful day for scenery as we head west to picturesque Queenstown. Our first stop is at Moeraki where large mysterious boulders line the beach. We then head inland to the heart of the Central Otago Wine Region. Enjoy some friendly hospitality and a gourmet kiwi lunch at Ophir. Otago is the world’s most southerly wine region and we’ll discover what makes this the ideal place for Pinot Noir at a local winery. In the early evening we arrive in Queenstown, the adventure capital of the world.

Day 8 Queenstown 
Milford Sound

The amazing scenery continues today as we make a day trip to Milford Sound. Stunning views greet us at every bend, all the way to the climax of the Sound itself. We’ll take various stops for photographs and short hikes along the way. At Milford we enjoy a 2-hour nature cruise with commentary from a local guide. We cruise the full length of the fjord, admiring waterfalls, rainforest, towering peaks, and wildlife. We’ll return to Queenstown in time for dinner and perhaps a beautiful sunset.

Day 9 Queenstown 
Free Day

Today is a vacation from our vacation. You have the full day at leisure in Queenstown. There are plenty of options available, including cruising on an old steamboat on Lake Wakatipu, mountain biking, luge riding, or jet boating.

Day 10 Franz Josef 
Lake Wanka
Leaving Queenstown, we make a short drive to the Wanaka. We’ll stop at Lake Wanaka for a visit with a local artist and then skirt the western side of Lake Hawea, climbing gradually up and over Haast Pass. There will be stops for short walks along the way, and we’ll arrive in Franz Josef township in the early evening, where we’ll dine together.

Day 11 Franz Josef
FJ Glacier; Lake Matheson
This morning we'll make a short drive to the Franz Josef Glacier Valley. Hike on a couple of short trails and see the glacier in the far distance (weather permitting). Later in the afternoon we have a longer guided nature walk around beautiful Lake Matheson to learn more about New Zealand’s unique flora and fauna.

Day 12 Christchurch 
Hokitika and Transalpine scenic train
Travelling up the west coast this morning we’ll arrive in the town of Hokitika, famous as a center for greenstone (jade) carving. We learn about the importance of greenstone to the Maori and its cultural significance today. We’ll meet master carvers who will have pre-shaped stones that we get to polish and take home as our taonga (treasure) from the whenua (land) of Aotearoa (New Zealand). In the afternoon we wave goodbye to our bus and board the train to Christchurch. One of the world’s great train rides, we travel in comfort through chiseled alpine mountains while crossing deep gorges and ice-fed rivers, arriving in the evening.

Day 13 Christchurch
Quake City; Dinner

This morning we start with a short walk to Quake City. This unique multi-sensory attraction informs, engages, and educates visitors about the region’s earthquakes. Your afternoon is free. Christchurch is known as the ‘Garden City’ due to its many parks and gardens. Tonight we’ll share memories of our tour and toast new friends at our final dinner together.

Day 2 Melbourne
Tram, Walking Tour, National Gallery

Melbourne offers a blend of culture, history, and natural beauty. We’ll begin our explorations with a historic tram ride around the city, followed by a walking tour of some of Melbourne's important historic sites, diving into Melbourne's famous laneways. We’ll wander through narrow alleys with colorful street art, boutique shops, and cozy cafés. After free time for lunch, we visit the National Gallery of Victoria, with a guided tour focusing on the Australian Collection.

Day 3 Cairns
Cairns Aquarium

After breakfast, we’ll head to Melbourne’s airport to catch our flight north to Cairns. Upon arrival we’ll have an orientation and visit the Cairns Aquarium for an introduction to the diverse ecosystems of North Queensland's two World Heritage listed areas – the Great Barrier Reef and the Wet Tropics Rainforest. Visitors can explore coral displays, interactive touch tanks, and exhibits featuring sharks, stingrays, and sea turtles.

Day 4 Cairns
GBR Excursion
An excursion to the Great Barrier Reef is an unforgettable adventure, offering the chance to explore one of the world’s most breathtaking natural wonders. Glide through crystal-clear waters teeming with coral gardens and colorful marine life, including tropical fish, sea turtles, and rays. Options include observing the reef from a semi-submersible vessel, simply dipping your toes in, or snorkeling above the coral. Day 5 Cairns
Scenic Railway, Kuranda, Rainforest Cableway
From Cairns we board the Kuranda Scenic Railway and ride on a mountain rail route originally used to service the rich mining regions of the Atherton Tablelands. Free time upon arrival allows for investigations of the Kuranda Heritage Markets and boutique shops, a visit to Koala Gardens, or the Australian Butterfly Sanctuary. We return to Cairns, not via train, but by the Rainforest Cableway known as the Skyrail, providing even more stunning views across the rainforest of the Wet Tropics.

Day 6 Coffs Harbor
Scenic Coast Drive
Today is a travel day as we fly south to Brisbane. Upon arrival we’ll embark on a scenic drive from Brisbane to Coffs Harbor, taking us along Australia’s beautiful Pacific Coast. The drive features ocean views, rolling hinterlands, and charming coastal towns, making it a picturesque and relaxing journey.

Day 7 Coffs Harbor
Board Walk Tour, Jetty Quarter, Scenic strolls
A free morning allows enjoyment of our resort accommodations. After lunch we'll explore the historic Jetty Quarter and then visit Sealey's Lookout for panoramic views of Coffs Harbor city and the surrounding coast. Then we will continue to Look At Me Now Headland to meet the local population of Eastern Grey kangaroos.

Day 8 Uralla
Dorrigo National Park
Our destination today is Uralla. A drive through the Bellinger Valley offers rolling green pastures, charming villages, and stunning mountain views. In Dorrigo National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, we’ll enjoy a light hike through ancient rainforests and take in panoramic views from the Skywalk lookout. Continuing on, a visit to Ebor Falls reveals a two-tiered cascade surrounded by rugged cliffs and walking trails, providing the perfect finale to a day of natural beauty.

Day 9 Uralla
Heritage Trail, Farm visit
Uralla boasts a blend of history, culture, and hands-on experiences. We’ll begin today with a walking tour of the Heritage Trail, exploring at the colonial past, bushranger (outlaw) lore, and local stories of the town. In the afternoon we’ll board our coach and head into the heart of rural Australia for a farm visit and to meet some local Aussie characters. Witness the skill and agility of working sheep or cattle dogs in action, showcasing Australia’s pastoral heritage.

Day 10 Sydney
Scenic drive, Harbor Cruise
On our final journey south we’ll drive through the charming Hunter Valley, passing rolling vineyards and a picturesque countryside. Quick stops in Tamworth & Meswellbrook allow photo opportunities with a Giant Guitar and Magpie. Continuing south, the Pacific Highway crosses the Hawkesbury Basin with its many dramatic sandstone gorges. Arriving in Sydney we’ll enjoy an evening harbor cruise with dinner on board. What better way to see the city sparkle than looking back at it, framed by the famous Harbor Bridge and Opera House?

Day 11 Sydney
Opera House, Botanical Garden
This morning we visit the renowned Sydney Opera House with a guided tour. We’ll have behind-the-scenes access and learn the unique construction and design story. After our Opera visit we'll take a guided walk through the Royal Botanic Garden. The walk ends at the Australian Museum, which you are free to visit at your own pace. Your afternoon is free for personal explorations.

Day 12 Sydney
North Shore and Manly Beach
Today, we’ll ferry across Sydney’s harbor for discovering the North Shore and Manly Beach. Enjoy a scenic walk along the beautiful coastal path between Manly and Shelley Beaches, home to the Cabbage Tree Bay Aquatic Reserve, a favorite local spot. There will be free time to investigate nearby beaches, rock pools, and dramatic sandstone headlands. We'll conclude our Australian journey with a Happy Hour and Q&A session with some Manly locals.

Uluru-Kata-Tjuta NP and Walpa Gorge
This morning we fly from Sydney to Uluru, the spiritual heart of the Australian Outback. Known formerly as Ayers Rock, the monolith dominates the surrounding desert landscape. This afternoon we explore the boulder formations and unique flora and fauna of Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. Our guide will reveal the many attributes of this diverse environment and its cultural significance as a sacred Aboriginal site. At Walpa Gorge we’ll walk between the mighty conglomerate domes and learn how they have evolved over millions of years. Take time to listen to the wind (Walpa) far above. The spirituality of this place impresses everyone who ventures here. This evening is free for you to relax at our 5 star accommodation.

Day 2 Uluru
Uluru Sunrise, Mutijulu, Field of Light

We need an early start today to travel to Uluru, its vast shape rising from the sand dunes in the early dawn light. Our guide will take us to a special location to watch the sun rise over the mighty rock. We will hear the Creation stories of Liru (poisonous snake) and Kuniya (python) and learn about the Mala people. After a “bush breakfast” we visit Mutijulu Waterhole where we hear it’s story and see the rock art nearby. Then we'll drive around the base of Uluru before returning to our hotel. This evening we visit The Field of Light art installation. More than 50,000 slender stems crowned with lighted glass spheres glow as darkness falls. As far as the eye can see colored light illuminates the desert. Enjoy a three course dinner followed by an explanation of the southern night sky from the resident star talker. A truly magical way to round off our last evening together!

Day 3 Extension over
Return flight to Sydney. Extension ends at Sydney airport (evening).
