The Imprint Tours Difference

Imprint has adapted our distinct travel approach to river cruises.  As with all cruises, after check-in you will be able to unpack once and settle into your cabin for the entire cruise with all meals included.  But similarities end there.  Each day we’ll have a custom built sightseeing experience and, where possible, free time for personal exploration.  Local guides have been “hand-selected” for their passion and educational sensibilities. Imprint’s values drive the choice of sights and experiences.

As you expect from us, the tour price includes ALL scheduled excursions, local guides, activities, entrances, and TIPS.  We’ve also included individual audio units for all cruise excursions. Typically, an Imprint tour is a bit more expensive due to all the inclusions, but in this case, we are able to offer this tour for a price considerably less than competitors, even comparing prices before the expensive shore options are added.  It gets better!  Rather than adding expensive extension options we include 2 extra days in Amsterdam and 3 nights in Switzeland.

We’ve partnered with Luftner Cruises.  Our cruise features free wine with dinners, live music, 24-hour coffee station, afternoon cake & pastry, the full time services of an onboard cruise director, concierge desk, and more.

The tour itinerary:

We will gather at our Wengen hotel for a get-acquainted meeting and then have dinner together.  Enjoy the alpenglow on the mighty Jungfrau.

Day 2 Aug 28 & 29Wengen
We have two glorious days in the Swiss Alps.  Your Imprint tour director will help organize optional excursions or hikes based on the days’ weather conditions*.  The tour will include a Lauterbrunnen Valley excursion that includes mighty Trummelbach Falls.  Other possible activities include the Schilthorn Excursion; Kleine Scheidegg hike; or Grindelwald First hike.

Day 3 Aug 30  Lake Thun, Bern, & Basel
We begin today with a lake steamer excursion on the Thunersee (weather dependent).  Then our private coach drives through the scenic alps of the Berner Oberland to the charming town of Bern.  Local author Diccon Bewes will guide us through his adopted home town.  Then we continue on to Basel to join our Amadeus cruise. After embarking, you can explore your AMADEUS ship and meet the cruise director at a Welcome Cocktail Party. Your floating hotel departs shortly before the Welcome Dinner.

Day 4 Aug 31  Strasbourg
During the night, your ship left Switzerland and followed the Rhine into the Alsace region in the southeast of France. During breakfast, arrive in Strasbourg – a city known not only for its romantic old town, but also for the numerous important European institutions there. We will have a walking tour, enjoying the cities highlights. An optional wine tasting excursion is also available.

Day 5 Sept 1  Speyer & Mannheim
Before breakfast, arrive in the Rhineland-Palatinate town of Speyer, which played an important role in the Holy Roman Empire of the Middle Ages. A local expert will introduce us to this charming city, including the famous cathedral.  Your trip continues on to Mannheim which we use as a jumping off point for a Heidelberg Castle excursion.  Mighty and romantic Heidelberg is the quintessential medieval fortress experience.  Our local expert will reveal its history and its secrets.

Day 6 Sept 2  Rudesheim & Koblenz
Two charming stops await you today. In the morning, arrive in Rüdesheim, a town well known for its winemakng. We will visit the famous Mechanical Music Museum and participate in a wine tasting. Your AMADEUS ship will depart at lunchtime, to cruise the most beautiful section of the river – the legendary Upper Middle Rhine Valley. The view from the sun deck, of the myth-enshrouded Lorelei, is sure to be a highlight of your cruise. Shortly thereafter, we arrive in Koblenz, one of Germany’s oldest and most beautiful towns, where you can end the day with a leisurely stroll through the city.

Day 7 Sept 3  Mosel Valley
The vessel departs Koblenz in the early hours, and makes a detour along the Mosel River. Our destination is the most  romantic part of the valley and the picture postcard town of Cochem. We will tour the magnificent Reichsburg castle situated high above the town but also leave time to explore and taste the local wines.

Day 8 Sept 4  Cologne
The morning is dedicated to the fascinating city of Cologne. You can expect a young, vibrant metropolis with a rich cultural history and many world-famous sights, in particular the famous Cologne Cathedral. A city tour including the Gothic masterpiece is our plan for this stop. After lunch, your floating hotel departs Cologne. The afternoon is spent cruising the scenic northern Rhein and in the evening the captain invites you to a festive Gala Dinner.

Day 9 Sept 5  The Netherlands
By lunchtime you will have crossed yet another country border to arrive in the Dutch town of Hoorn. This picturesque village is a jumping off point for an optional overland trip to the north of Holland and Amsterdam. For those remaining onboard, discover the beauty of the Dutch Waterways as the ship glides toward the capital city of the Netherlands, where it will remain docked for the evening.  After dinner, for those interested, your Imprint tour director will take you on a brief walking tour of the famous Red Light District

Day 10 Sept 6Amsterdam
After one last hearty breakfast, it is time to depart our Amadeus ship.  We’ll have our bags transferred to our Amsterdam hotel while we have a walking tour of the city and a visit to the Anne Frank Museum.  Our hotel is near the famous Leidesplein, an energetic and fun neighborhood for dinner.

Day 11 Sept 7Amsterdam
Our final full day together is dedicated to the exceptional art of the great Vincent Van Gogh.  In the morning we will have a guided tour of the museum dedicated to his art.  Your afternoon is free to explore more of Amsterdam.  We will gather for a last night dinner together.

Day 12 Sept 8Tour over
Tour ends after breakfast.  Imprint will assist with airport transfers.

*The Imprint Tour philosophy is to include all organized activities in the price of the tour.  However, our time in Switzerland is different.  With the exception of the included Trummelbach excursion, hikes and alpine excursions in the Alps are only worthwhile when the weather cooperates, so we have opted not to include the costs of these activities.  Your Imprint tour director will organize activities based on weather conditions.  We will get all group price reductions available and pass those savings on to you, thereby keeping with our overarching goal of providing the best value possible.

Included in the tour price:

Responsible Travel
A major concern of Imprint and Luftner as organizers of river cruises is that Europe’s beautiful waterways be traveled sustainably.  It is particularly important to us to create an overall awareness of ecological responsibility on board in addition to our implementation of environmentally-friendly measures. We are therefore proud to be working closely with organizations “Green Globe” and “Atmosfair” in making an active contribution to climate control, protecting the environment, and making sure that our lovely riverside scenery can be enjoyed for many years to come.
